Where Warning Lights Go on Fire Apparatus

Firefighter POV Lights for Volunteers and First Responders

Volunteer firefighters responding from home need warning lights on a personally owned vehicle, and this is the area where the rules differ most from state to state.

Color authorization is the first thing you need to consider. Blue is the designated volunteer firefighter color in multiple states; red is used in others, while several states reserve blue exclusively for law enforcement (which makes it illegal on a POV). In some jurisdictions, green is used for command or EMS. There is no national standard, so the only reliable answer comes from your state vehicle code.
