We understand that there are many interior and exterior vehicle lighting products to choose from. Our grille and surface-mount LED warning lights are some of the most compact yet powerful warning lights on the market. With high-power LED brightness and high-quality, rugged builds, these are some of the most popular warning lights we offer on our website.

What Are LED Grille Lights/Surface Mounts?

LED grille lights/surface mounts are compact warning light units that can be installed in or around the grille portion of the vehicle. They also have built-in mounting holes if you prefer a surface mount on your vehicle. This gives you full flexibility when it comes to outfitting your vehicle and installing these units, allowing you to choose where to mount them and how many lights you need for your specific emergency vehicle lighting build.

These LED warning light heads can also be synced together. Syncing multiple units creates a clean warning light flash pattern that captures drivers' attention on the road. Whether you're using these as LED grille lights or as surface-mount vehicle lights, they are intensely bright and provide visible and effective lighting.

Grille Light Sizes: Z-3 Through Z-24

Each model name has a number that indicates the LED count, so output scales directly with size:

  • Z-3: The smallest head in the range, in a single color. This is ideal for tight grille slots and fender positions where a larger head will not fit.
  • Z-4: A compact head with dual-color options, so one unit can run two warning colors from a single position.
  • Z-6: The most common grille light size, and the only one offered in every series, including Super Takedown and Brake Light.
  • Z-8: A longer head available in the MultiColor Linear series, where the wider illuminated face is more visible from a distance.
  • Z-12: A primary front or rear position head, offered in both TIR and MultiColor Linear.
  • Z-24: The largest in the range, for full-width positions on heavy vehicles and tow trucks where the mounting area allows it.

Most patrol builds pair Z-6 heads in the grille with Z-3 or Z-4 heads filling the corner and fender positions. Purple lights are offered on the Z-3, Z-4, and Z-6 heads alongside the standard amber, red, blue, clear, and green.

TIR vs. MultiColor Linear Optics

Every head in this range uses one of two optic designs, and the series that you choose will change how the lights read on the road:

  • TIR Series: Each LED is focused into a controlled, high-output beam for maximum intensity at distance. This is the stronger choice when you need long-range warning, especially when the lights are facing oncoming traffic directly.
  • MultiColor Linear Series: Output is spread across a magnifying lens for an even, fully illuminated face. This design gives better off-angle visibility and is the series that carries the tri-color and quad-color configurations.

Both series carry Dual Memory, so on the next power cycle, each head returns to the last pattern and color you selected.

Surface Mount Vehicle Lights Placement on Emergency Vehicles

If you're specifically looking to use these warning lights as surface-mount vehicle lights, then you will be able to utilize the built-in holes that allow simple installation on your vehicle. It’s important to place these in the right spots so that they maximize their light output, which is why we made them compact enough to fit on pretty much any surface of your vehicle.

Specialty Surface Mount Shapes and Functions

Four models cover positions a standard rectangular head cannot:

  • Alpha-Z: Larger rectangular heads in 7x3, 6x4, and 7x9 formats, built for the bigger mounting areas on fire trucks, large work trucks, and ambulances.
  • Half Octo: A 180-degree head that throws light to the sides as well as forward, which suits corner and fender positions.
  • ZX-180: A combination surface mount and under-mirror light, so one part number covers both positions.
  • Super Takedown and Brake Light: Z-6 heads with a secondary function built in. Super Takedown adds secondary clear color for scene lighting, while Brake Light adds secondary red so a rear head doubles as a brake light.

Flare hideaway heads can also be surface mounted with the included flange, so the same part can sit inside a headlight housing or on an exterior panel. Browse hideaway kits for those models.

MultiColor LED Surface Mounts - Dual/Tri/Quad Color Flashing Configurations

Our MultiColor models in the Z linear series grille lights/surface mounts are our newest and most improved low-profile warning lights. They feature a variety of flash patterns, including MultiColor flash mode and single-color A or B flash mode. The MultiColor functionality of this bar allows both left and right sides to flash different colors in the same module based on your order, giving you true MultiColor flashing functionality while also giving you a variety of flash patterns in single-color mode A or B, so you can even switch between which color you need to use at that time. Choose these models for the best of both worlds.

With our multicolor models, having clear as your secondary color gives you an extra benefit of the steady burn override Super Take Down® effect. This means when you activate your steady burn override shortcut, your secondary color will remain steady. So, if your secondary color is clear, you get an all-white steady-burn that can illuminate the scene.

Frequently Asked Questions About LED Grille Lights

What size grille light do I need?

The size you need depends on the mounting space and how far the warning output has to carry. Z-3 and Z-4 heads are ideal for tight grille slots and fender positions. Z-6 is the most common size for a front grille build. Z-8, Z-12, and Z-24 heads are great for primary positions on larger vehicles, where a wider illuminated face is visible from a distance.

Do you have LED grill lights for trucks?

Yes, every head in this range fits a truck grill as well as a car grille. The compact Z-3, Z-4, and Z-6 sizes drop into most factory grill openings, while the larger Alpha-Z heads are better for the bigger flat areas on work trucks, fire trucks, and tow vehicles. Built-in mounting holes mean the same head can also be surface mounted to a bumper or fender.

What is the difference between TIR and MultiColor Linear grille lights?

TIR optics focus each LED into a narrow, high-output beam, which gives the strongest long-distance punch. MultiColor Linear optics spread the output across a magnifying lens for an even, fully illuminated face with better off-angle visibility. The MultiColor Linear series also carries tri-color and quad-color configurations.

Can grille lights flash more than two colors?

Yes, the MultiColor Linear heads offer multi-color features. Dual-color versions are available across the range, and the Z-8, Z-12, Z-24, and ZX-180 Linear models add tri-color configurations such as red, blue, and clear, along with four-color options. A single head can then cover warning and scene functions from one position.

Can multiple grille lights be synced together?

Yes, these LED warning light heads can be synced so they flash as one coordinated pattern rather than independently. Syncing keeps a multi-head build looking clean and deliberate, which reads better to approaching drivers than several heads flashing out of step.

What is the Super Takedown effect on a multicolor head?

Super Takedown is a steady burn override. When you activate the shortcut, the secondary color stops flashing and switches to steady output. If your secondary color is clear, that gives you all-white steady-burn illumination for scene lighting from the same head that carries your warning colors.
